Hi there!

Welcome to Hungry Earth™, where we are all about the spectacular science of soil and biochar’s valuable role as an organic gardening tool.

Bustling with life, healthy soil is a hub of activity, and biochar works to house and encourage that life below.

Biochar is created from biomass or plant life, roasted through pyrolysis (cooking in a limited oxygen environment) to heat biomass down to its basic carbon building block while locking the plant’s stored carbon in a stable, solid form.

How is biochar made, and what makes it carbon-negative?

Melon provided website design for a Biochar product called Hungry Earth. Biochar holds and releases nutrients at the root when needed and can also decrease nutrient loss (leaching) from watering and rainfall. Because it is highly porous, biochar can house millions of essential microbes and organisms, helping to create dynamic soil and compost mixes.
