PROPELLER BREWERY
After 20 years, Atlantic Canada's leading craft brewery gets a makeover and a new logo design

The Client Context
Client & Milestone: Propeller Brewing Company, Halifax's landmark craft brewery, is marking its 20th anniversary rebrand.
Industry: Craft Beverage, Microbrewery & Retail Packaging.
The Core Challenge: Evolving a beloved regional brand identity to celebrate two decades of pioneering craft brewing in Nova Scotia. The brand needed to honor its iconic maritime roots and established community equity while modernization was required to compete on crowded craft retail shelves alongside younger microbreweries.
Symbol Components & Meaning
The central brandmark features an iconic three-bladed marine propeller set against a stylized industrial gear background and ocean waves—paying homage to Halifax’s rich shipbuilding history, port culture, and mechanical brewing craftsmanship.
Typography
Bold, arched vintage-inspired typography with distinct serif anchors. The curved header text hugging the upper gear profile evokes traditional industrial badges, brewing stamps, and maritime machinery plates.
Color Palette
The colours were fine-tuned and based on the established colours associated with each of the beers. They span the entire colour spectrum.
Layout & Scalability
Structured within a cohesive circular crest/badge silhouette. This self-contained layout translates seamlessly across diverse physical media, including aluminum cans, glass bottles, tap handles, growlers, taproom signage, and promotional apparel.
Strategic Context & Market Positioning
For a 20th anniversary rebrand, wholesale visual changes risk alienating loyal local consumers who have supported the brand for decades. The strategy focused on evolution rather than revolution—cleaning up vector geometry, modernizing fonts, sharpening line weights, and building a flexible packaging framework that honors two decades of craft heritage while maintaining a bold, premium shelf presence in liquor stores across Atlantic Canada.
